Newly signed Epic Records recording artist, Bobby Shmurda, performed for his bosses a few days ago.  I watched it and I couldn't help but cringe.  The performance reminded me of a buck on the slave auction block, in which the observers were less interested in what the slaves could do, but rather more so concerned about how they could profit from exploiting them.  (Bucks are what they called the male African slaves, and the females were called does.)

"Hey DJ just play that song, keep me dancing---dancing---all night, all night."  That's that old school ish right there.  "Hey D.J.," released by The World Famous Supreme Team in 1986, used to get the party jumping (Hey D.J.).  And it was one of many odes to the DJ during that era.

Dance has always been an integral part of Hip-Hop culture.  From the breakdancing B-boy days of its infancy, to the "Dougie" and "Harlem Shake" of the new millennium, Hip-Hop dance styles have dictated how the young and trendy move to music.  This is still true today.  Case in point---twerking.  Twerking is the latest Hip-Hop spawned craze to enthrall the nation.

Twerking has taken the country by storm.  With everyone paying homage to the dance form, from Jay-Z and Busta Rhymes, to the not-so-cute chick on your Instagram timeline.

This blog is dedicated to all the people returning from the belly of the beast (i.e. prison). One of the first real decisions that you will have to make is between The Package and The Jewel. The Package can come in many forms. It could be a few dollars, clothes and/or sneakers, or narcotics. The Package: familiar, easy, a quick-fix---it can get you life. But, on the other hand, The Jewel has many forms as well. Jewels can be wise words from a loved one or someone who has been in your shoes, a job or college application, or contact information to organizations that could be of assistance to you. The Jewel: enlightening, inspirational, sustainable---it can save your life.

Tour Magazine had the pleasure of sponsoring an event that was hosted by Hip-Hop lyricist and reality-TV star, Joe Budden, over the Memorial Day weekend.  I was in attendance---of course---and I must admit that I was surprised to see the wittiness and earthly appeal that Joe exhibits, on camera, remain true in person.  (Also, he is taller and bigger than I expected, but that's beyond the point.)  Simply put, Joe Budden is a real...dude.

I am just as addicted to my social networks as the next person.  One of the first things that I do upon waking is check my Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook accounts---in that order.  (Occasionally, even before I thank GOD for allowing me to see another day.  I need to work on that.)  And while I'm being honest, I must admit that I've come accross several rather lucrative business ventures via social networking.  But let's be real, everyone isn't exploiting the networking monetary potential of these sites.  Sometimes, we're simply not-working.

While many of us giddily began this month playing "April Fools" jokes, others were painstakingly making descisions that have global ramifications.  For instance, the Supreme Court is deliberating the legality of Proposition 8 (California's ban on same-sex marriage), which could possibly redefine one of the oldest institutions known to human kind.

One of the fundamental aspects of TOUR MAGAZINE  is its coverage of underground Hip-Hop artists.  (We define "underground" as artists that have not received a major label deal and/or major distribution.)  To that end, we are currently looking for underground Hip-Hop artists, from the DMV, to appear in our Fall issue.  The top selections will be featured in a 3-4 page spread that includes a comprehensive interview and professional photo shoot.

As the 40th Anniversary of the formation of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) approaches, I think that it is fitting that I touch upon one of our government's greatest domestic policy failures---the War on Drugs.  And as a casualty of this war, I know firsthand the devastation that it has wreaked upon families across the nation.  (Particularly, those families belonging to the Black and Hispanic communities.)  In fact, our government's anti-drug campaign has done little more than devour tax dollars and swell the criminal justice system to staggering proportions.

Let's take a look at the facts.

One of my favorite songs by Beanie Sigel is "What Your Life Like."  Remember?  [chorus] Tell me,what your life like? Shit. Mines is real. Everything signed is sealed.  I love that song.  And just thinking about it caused me to ask myself the question: what is your life like?

Thinking...
